How you pay
Both sites use prepaid tokens. You buy a pack, then spend tokens on tips, ticket shows and private shows. Watching public shows costs nothing, and nothing is charged unless you spend tokens yourself. Larger packs are cheaper per token on both sites.

Free viewing
Without an account, Stripchat lets you watch one show for about 60 minutes at a time. A free account, which needs no card, removes the limit and lets you chat. Chaturbate's public rooms are free to watch too, and you need an account to chat. On both, spending is always your choice.
Private shows and spying
Models on both sites set their own private show rates. On Stripchat they commonly range from 8 to 200 tokens a minute, so ten minutes at 20 tokens a minute is 200 tokens, roughly $17 to $22. Both sites also let you spy on a private show for less than the full rate, without taking part. Stripchat adds ticket and group shows where many viewers share the cost.
Japanese models
If Japanese models are what you are after, Stripchat is the stronger choice of the two. This site records Stripchat's Japanese models every 10 minutes: 300 to 400 stream on a typical day, with the most between 10 PM and 1 AM Japan time. We could not find a public figure for Chaturbate.
Japan also has its own cam sites. DXLIVE and FC2 Live mostly feature Japanese models, but they are aimed at Japanese speakers, and DXLIVE asks for a credit card when you sign up.
